Day4: Beijing—The Great Wall of China
Departure early from your hotel to visit China’s most renowned monument – the Great Wall.
The ’original’ wall was begun in the 5th century B.C. to keep foreign invaders out. Construction continued for centuries, eventually linking up the walls of the former independent kingdoms. The Great Wall meanders through China’s northern mountain ranges from the Yellow Sea to the Gobi
Desert – a distance of over 3500 miles! You will have ample time to climb a section of the Great Wall which remains untouched by most tourists. Have your lunch in a local restaurant afterwards. On the way back to the city, we will make a photo stop at the Olympic Site. You will find the unique historical landmark of the 2008 Olympics: the Bird Nest and Water Cube. The national stadium's appearance is one of synergy, with no distinction made between the facade and the superstructure. The structural elements mutually support each other and converge into a grid-like formation -almost like a bird's nest with its interwoven twigs hence the name. Water Cube was the aquatics center during the game. This blue crystal building is the world's only enclosed public construction covered entirely with membrane. Sparkles, glows and the iridescent "bubbles" on its outer walls create a comfortable, tranquil and poetic atmosphere.
Tonight we will discover the local restaurant cost is on our own. It all depends your physical situation after the Great Wall. (B, L,)

As the starting point of the famous Silk Road, the city attracted traders from West since this commercial way started in 1st century B.C. During the 8th century AD, Xi’an was the largest city in the world with over one million inhabitants, among which one third of them were foreigners. The ancestors of these Muslims could be tracing back to that time. This part of the city is a fascinating area where you can find exotic food, interesting people (some of the residents are still look like their Arabian cousins). We will first heading to a centuries-old mosque. This mosque is quite different from most visitors’ imagination but a wonderfully serene place to escape the hustle and bustle city life. (B, L, D)

The extensive excavation, still in progress, has yielded over 6000 life-sized terra cotta warriors, each individually sculpted, with the physical characteristics of the humans they were modeled after. Archers, infantrymen, horses and bronze chariots have also been unearthed. A Circle Vision documentary is available on site. The tour also includes a work shop where local people are making jade wares. On the way back we will discover the largest Chinese herbs market in China.
