North across the Golden Gate Bridge lie two of California’s most unique tourist attractions.  Marin County, one of the most affluent counties in the United States, is home to one of the few remaining groves of virgin Coastal Redwoods.  These redwood trees are among the tallest and oldest trees in existence.  The “Nature Trail” at Muir Woods leads you into the heart of its cathedral-like grove.  Sausalito is an alluring village of art galleries, quaint shops and waterfront restaurants with views of San Francisco across the bay.  Its cliff-hanging cottages and houseboat community lend a Mediterranean ambience, but the locals you will meet are pure “California”. Return to San Francisco or your San Francisco hotel via your tour bus or stay and enjoy more of Sausalito and return on your own via the Blue & Gold Fleet Ferry.

Yosemite in a Day by Bus departs from San Francisco for an unforgettable Yosemite National Park sightseeing tour.  At the center point of Yosemite National Park is one of the natural wonders of the world – Yosemite Valley.  Yosemite Valley is a half-mile deep depression carved by glaciers during the last ice age, which now has soaring 3,000 foot high granite domes and stunning waterfalls.

Getting an early start, we cross the Bay Bridge at sunrise.  A refreshment stop will be made once we reached the Central Valley, the most productive agricultural valley in North America.  Yosemite’s glacier-carved grandeur awaits us in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east.  Our stay will include both a guided tour of its majesty, as well as time on your own for hiking,

shopping and dining in Yosemite Village.  The return trip to San Francisco affords time to reflect, as we follow the sun west to its setting over the Pacific Ocean.

Day 1 – Rapid City, South Dakota
See some of America’s grandest sights! Your western adventure begins in Rapid City, South Dakota. Transfer from the Rapid City Airport by hotel courtesy shuttle to your centrally located hotel, the Radisson, for a two night stay. Rooms are available for check in after 3:00 p.m. Dinner is at your hotel, then join Tour for an 8:00 p.m. welcome briefing. D

Day 2 – Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse
Enj
Mount Rushmoreoy a morning visit to Mt. Rushmore National Monument, with the sculptured faces of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Next, drive to Crazy Horse Memorial. Started over 50 years ago, and only halfway complete, the memorial is the world’s largest sculpture in progress. Chief Standing Bear told the sculptor, Korczak Ziolkowski, “My fellow chiefs and I would like the white man to know the red man has great heroes, too.” The monument is a tribute to the Oglala Lakota Indian leader known as Crazy Horse. Here, Indian artisans showcase their arts and crafts and visit with guests. Then visit the Indian Museum of North America. Afternoon drive through the Black Hills to the old frontier mining town of Deadwood. Here, on Deadwood’s restored main street, walk in the footsteps of such western legends as “Wild Bill” Hickok and Calamity Jane. Return to Rapid City. B

Day 3 – Little Big Horn, Montana
Enter Wyoming this morning and head west across the high plains. Drive by the old western cowboy town of Sheridan. Lunch. Next, enter Montana, “Big Sky Country.” Visit Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in the Crow Nation. Here in 1876, in the valley of Little Big Horn, combined Sioux and Northern Cheyenne forces led by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse overwhelmed Custer and his calvary. Continue to Billings, nestled between the Yellowstone River and the red Rimrocks. Explorers Lewis & Clark camped near here in 1806. Enjoy dinner. BLD

Day 4 – Cody, Yellowstone National Park
Journey through the wide-open spaces of Montana today en route to Cody, Wyoming. Visit the Museum and the Whitney Gallery of Western Art, with paintings and sculptures by revered artists such as Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. This afternoon, cross the Continental Divide and enter Yellowstone Park for a relaxing two-night stay. Tour normally stays at Old Faithful Inn. However, starting in 2005, Old Faithful Inn will be undergoing a two-year reconstruction and renovation project. The Inn will be open for overnight stays only from early July to early September. When open, Caravan will stay at Old Faithful Inn. When the Inn is closed, you will stay at Grant Village or Canyon Lodge. Both are Yellowstone National Park lodges. Under the list of departure dates we have indicated where you will stay. Enjoy dinner at your Yellowstone National Park lodge.

Note: Tours departing May 28 and September 3, 6, 10, 17, 20, 24 stay at Grant Village in Yellowstone Park. Tours departing June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2 and September 13 stay at Canyon Lodge in Yellowstone Park. Tours departing July 9 through August 30 stay at Old Faithful Inn. BD

Day 5 – Yellowstone, Mammoth Springs
Today enjoy a full day complete circle tour of Yellowstone Park. Established in 1872, Yellowstone became the first national park in the world. Now over 90 countries have national parks. This 2,219,766 acre park contains almost 300 geysers and over 10,000 hot springs, fumaroles and mud pots. Look for moose, elk and bison. You will visit the major attractions of both Yellowstone’s upper and lower loops. On the upper loop, you will see Norris Geyser Basin and visit Mammoth Hot Springs. Walk on the raised platforms above the unique terraced pools. Mammoth Hot Springs is one of the best areas in the park for close-up viewing of elk or bison. On the lower loop, you will see Old Faithful Geyser where every 90 minutes the Old Faithful Geyser shoots thousands of gallons of steaming water into the air. You will see Fountain Paint Pots, Yellowstone Lake and visit Yellowstone’s Grand Canyon, where you can marvel at the rushing waters of Yellowstone Falls, twice the height of Niagara. Return to your Yellowstone Park Lodge. B

Day 6 – Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole
This morning enter Grand Teton National Park. See the jagged soaring Teton Range with peaks over 12,000 feet. Scenes from the film “Shane” were filmed here. Enjoy a picnic lunch near the banks of the Snake River. Weather permitting, an unforgettable float trip awaits you on the majestic Snake River. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound as you float through the park. Watch for waterfowl, beaver, osprey and eagles. Next, stop at pristine Jenny Lake. Then, free time to explore downtown Jackson. Stroll the art galleries and western shops. See the Antler Arch at the entrance to the town square. You may wish to visit the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, with bar stools made from horse saddles. Next, to your hotel in Teton Village, the Inn at Jackson Hole. BL

Day 7 – Tetons, Oregon Trail, Idaho
Drive south through the Bridger-Teton National Forest this morning. Enter Idaho and cross the route of the original “Oregon Trail.” Continue via Logan Canyon to Salt Lake City, Utah, the state capital. Afternoon visit to Temple Square. Visit the Mormon Tabernacle, home to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. See the Tabernacle organ, which has 11,000 pipes. Farewell dinner. BD

Day 8 – Salt Lake City, Utah
Your tour ends after breakfast at your hotel in Salt Lake City.
